Members are having amazing vacations, and sometimes we're lucky enough to hear the details. This month we're sharing a unique experience from a visit to Bovey Castle in Devon England.

"Our week at Bovey Castle was wonderful…

It wasn't just the incredible physical presence of the castle and its gardens and grounds… or the charm of the people… or the handsome lodges, tastefully sited in the landscape…

It was so much more.

It was Dartmoor: the environs, nature and man coming together for centuries, in a very appealing way. I only could think of Tuscany, as a comparison. We walked, drove and smiled our way around the rolling verdant hillsides, dotted with ancient manor houses, plump sheep grazing and wandering peacefully, across hill and dale.

It was Martin, our falconer, who acquainted us to this ancient art of man and beast, Introducing us to his 19 raptors including his gregarious Harris Hawks, a Gyr Falcon (the fastest bird on the planet), and my favorite, a precious seven-week-old Siberian Eagle Owl (we saw her take her first flight!). Our camera card is full of soaring, diving, cooing, and laughter…

It was Diane and Louise, our concierges, always on the ready to get us what we needed, or invent what we didn't know we did need.

Hiking was the high point for us. Walking to another town for lunch at a nearby pub was a blast. Loved talking with the locals about fox-hunting, Bush, Blair, Obama… there was always a polite, but ready, opinion or inquiry. And there is great golf, riding, fishing, trap/clay shooting and archery."
